Sophisticated, eclectic and often whimsical ideas culminate after searching my internal library of information.  Elements comprising a design have their own special value such as shape, texture and color, all reading together to form one thought to create each piece, which is a journey through known and unknown territory.  My experimental experience gives me a rush and dread, all at the same time.  I am continually extending myself beyond my abilities to create new and unique designs, which can be a scary ride.   For the most part, the results have ended happily.  My personality is exposed with each decision I make, and it is for this reason I believe the reader will discover for him or herself the hand-crafted value of my art.

I am an artist living in Fort Myers, FL, creating every day.  After attending the Maine College of Art over twenty years ago, I have been searching to find “my voice.”  Since creating in metals all this time, it has only been in the last two years that I have discovered what makes me happy with my work.  I realized that the process of drawing the design and documenting every step has saved me much anguish, resulting in enjoyable, productive time spent at my bench.  By being more productive, my “voice” found me.   One driver of my designs seems to be stones.  Whether used as an embellishment or as the focus of the design, they are found in most of my work.  Stones and fossils having a dimensional or picture quality with unusual shape, patterns and color greatly inspire my one of-a-kind designs.

Another driver is technique.  After learning to create closed boxes, fish emerged.  I now have a core line of fish which are well received.   These fish pendants, earrings, cufflinks, pins and rings have become my signature line.  I have so much fun making these pieces, I can’t stop.  All four shapes start with hand bent wire sides.  Fronts are roller printed with a pattern and each is decorated differently with semi-precious stones.  All include hand-engraved fish scales on the back and sides and hang from a fish hook when appropriate.  Hand-made chains put the finishing touches on many of my pieces.  It is really satisfying when the entire pendant is original right down to the chain from which it hangs.

My work can be found in several gallery locations in SW Florida and New York.  Currently, I am the FSG (Florida Society of Goldsmiths) Secretary of State and past president of our local SW Chapter.  I am also a long-time member of SNAG (Society of North American Goldsmiths).  For the last six years I have taught beginner and Intermediate/advanced Silversmithing at the Cape Coral Arts Studio.  It has also been my privilege to travel locally and nationally teaching several jewelry techniques.  I own a US Patent called the “Swivel Locking Clasp,” which is designed to prevent jewelry losses.  My hobbies include visiting with friends, exercise and snow boarding.

Giclees

In addition to original paintings, giclee prints of original art are now also available at Sea Grape. Giclees are high quality digital reproductions of paintings printed on archival paper or canvas, using archival inks.  Giclees faithfully capture the beauty of the original work, and are fade resistant and long lasting.  Giclees are usually printed in limited editions, and are signed and numbered by the artist.  These prints have become increasingly popular at galleries as an economical alternative for the consumer. Since giclees can be printed individually as needed, and are available in different sizes and prices, customers are able to obtain an image that exactly suits their decor needs. Several of Sea Grape's two-dimensional artists have  giclee prints of their artwork available in specially marked bins, so stop in and browse!
