"Whereiwannabe” is a continuing series of landscape paintings that capture the tranquil beauty of some of the special places Karen has visited in Florida. Watercolors of Cayo Costa, Cedar Key, Useppa Island, Babcock Ranch, and Boca Grande are in many private collections and corporate offices. Landscapes inspired by the Tetons, Blue Ridge Mountains, and the New England coast are subjects in her other collections of watercolors, watermedia collages, and photography. As a licensed Biltmore artist, her recent works can be purchased directly or at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.
“Mother Nature inspires me….and I feel compelled to create landscapes that transport the viewer to that "special place." I take numerous photos and use my plein air sketches to help me recall the essence of the place, colors, lighting, and mood. Primarily, I use multiple washes of transparent watercolors, but have been including more watermedia and washi collage in some of my more recent works, along with acrylic on canvas, paper, and clayboard." Numbered limited edition archival giclees are available in various sizes.
Karen grew up in Buffalo, NY, and she and husband, Gary, raised their 2 daughters in a small rural town on eastern Long Island – Cutchogue, NY. She now resides in Placida, FL.
Karen’s work has been in several juried shows on Long Island, and at the Englewood and Venice Art Centers and the Visual Art Center. She has also exhibited at the Lemon Tree Gallery in Englewood. She is a member of the Englewood and Venice Art Centers, the Arts and Humanities Council of Charlotte County, and the Visual Art Center.
